Season course

Regular season

In the north, the Braunschweig Lions showed no nakedness and came first without losing points. On the other hand, only a direct comparison in favor of the Hamburg Blue Devils and against the Cologne Crocodiles, who landed in third place, decided on second place. Fourth was the newcomer, the Berlin Adler, albeit with a clear point gap to the three top teams. The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes landed on the relegation site and only managed one victory in the season.

In the south, the title was only awarded on the last match day. After things looked very good for the Stuttgart Scorpions until the middle of the season, they weakened a bit towards the end of the season, especially the 55:56 home defeat against the Franken Knights on the penultimate match day was bitter. At halftime, the scorpions were still leading with 41:28 and after three quarters 47:35. In addition, they had the bad luck of meeting the Braunschweig Lions in the interconference games. The Rhein-Main Razorbacks took advantage of this weakness and the somewhat cheaper game plan. Four rounds before the goal was still in third place, they pushed past the Scorpions and the Franken Knights, where they won 49:42 on the third last day of the match. The Stuttgart Scorpions came second, one point behind, thanks to the direct comparison they had made with the Franken Knights, who had to be content with third place. The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns finished fourth, albeit with a respectable gap of 8 points. The Saarland Hurricanes reached fifth place, among other things, they managed to wrest a draw from the Stuttgarters. The traditional team from Munich, the cowboys, graced the end of the table with just one point and had to go into relegation.

Relegation

In the south, the Munich Cowboys and the Marburg Mercenaries faced each other. The first leg in Munich was won by the challengers from Marburg, in front of about 800 spectators in the Dantestadion , with 28:12. And the second leg was also a clear matter for the mercenaries, with a 42:23 the fate of the cowboys was sealed, because with the Munich Cowboys the last remaining founding member of the 1st Bundesliga of the AFVD after 20 years of membership in the league was relegated (in total, it was 24 years if you include the time of the AFBD ). The Mercenaries, however, succeeded in the second attempt, in the previous year they had failed because of the Franken Knights, for the first time promotion to the top German league.

The results were even clearer in the north. There the Dresden Monarchs triumphed and left the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes no chance in either game. The Monarchs won 38-0 in Kiel and the second leg at home was even won 62-0. This was also the first promotion to the GFL for the Dresden Monarchs.

The Marburg Mercenaries are promoted to the GFL-Süd, the Dresden Monarchs are promoted to the GFL-Nord. The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (north) and the Munich Cowboys (south) descend.

Play-offs

Even in the quarter-finals, the Braunschweig Lions continued their march undeterred. In front of 7,261 spectators, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns were clearly put in their place with 54: 3. The other three encounters were all the more exciting. In front of 4,500 spectators in Hamburg it took an outstanding performance from RB / WR Estrus Crayton, who with six touchdowns had a good share in the 49:42 win of the Blue Devils against the Franken Knights. Nevertheless, the Knights, who had already led 35:21 at half time, still had the opportunity to reach extra time, but the touchdown to equalize was canceled by a holding penalty. The Stuttgart Scorpions also got away with a black eye, after a 35:12 lead in the fourth quarter, they had to let the Cologne Crocodiles come closer to 35:32. The surprise therefore occurred in Rüsselsheim, where the local, favorite Rhein-Main Razorbacks had to admit defeat to the newcomers from Berlin, the Adlers, with 21:23. At halftime the Eagles were already leading 20: 8, but the Razorbacks came back and turned the tide in the third quarter to 21:20. But 27 seconds before the end of the game, Adlerkicker Peter Gärtner kicked his team into the semifinals from 27 yards away. Final score 23:21 for the eagles.

With the Adler victory, the Hamburg Blue Devils came to another home game, which they certainly won. The Adler, who had to admit defeat only 13: 7 and 17:10 in the regular season, had no chance against the Blue Devils in the semifinals and lost clearly with 41:13. In the other semi-final the result was even clearer, the Scorpions had no chance in Braunschweig, they were defeated by the Lions with 61:14. This resulted in the new edition of the previous year's finale in the German Bowl .
