The Rhein-Neckar Bandits were athletically qualified for participation in GFL 2 Süd after relegation from the GFL, but the 1st team disintegrated after relegation, so that no more playable team was formed. For this reason it was decided to restart with the previous 2nd team and the remaining players from the 1st team in the lowest division, the Baden-Württemberg regional league. Therefore the GFL 2 Süd consisted of only seven teams and there was only one athletic relegation at the end of the season.

In both games, the northern champion of GFL 2 clearly prevailed and was thus able to qualify for the 2018 season in the 1st Northern League. The Potsdam team celebrated the greatest success in the club's history with promotion to the top German league.
