The Nürnberg Rams (formerly Noris Rams) are one of the most successful American football teams in Franconia .

history

Founded in September 1981, they played in the 2nd Bundesliga in 1982 . Between 1983 and 1998 the Nürnberg Rams, who later renamed themselves to Noris Rams due to disputes with the umbrella club, played in the 1st Bundesliga . In 1987, the Nuremberg footballers made the championship in the southern group for the first time and came third in the play-off round of the German championship. The southern championship was repeated in 1989, 1991 and 1996. The attack on the national championship title failed in the play-off round. 1987 was the most successful year in the history of the Rams. Only in the semi-finals did the Nuremberg team lose to the eventual champions Berlin Adler and thus achieved third place in the 1st Bundesliga.

In 1998 the forced relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga followed, as the team could not compete in the games with the required number of staff. The following year, the club was dissolved, which, alongside the Ansbach Grizzlies, made American football popular in Franconia. Up to 6,000 spectators attended the home games, which were played on both Soldier Field (Zeppelin Field) and in the Frankenstadion.

The longest in the position of club chairman was Peter Schuh from Nuremberg, who also re-established the Nuremberg Rams as a flag football team in 2000 . The Nürnberg Rams flag team has been very successful to this day and has secured Bavarian and German championship titles. Some players took part in the national team in European and world championships.

In October 2007 the American football team Nürnberg Rams American Sports eV was founded, which managed to celebrate four promotions within four years. The Nürnberg Rams played in the German Football League 2 (2nd Bundesliga) for the first time in the 2012 season, in which they reached 4th place in the table. In the 2013 season, the Rams reached 3rd place in the GFL 2.

The club plays on the Zeppelinfeld / Soldierfield in Nuremberg, a natural grass pitch with a spectator capacity of 2,500. In 2012 around 4,500 spectators came to the home games of the Nürnberg Rams, the average was 681 spectators.
