Mannheim Redskins
The Mannheim Redskins were an American football team from Mannheim . The team belonged to the Bundesliga until 1988 and became German runner-up in 1981.

The Mannheim Redskins were founded in 1979. In 1981 the second place could be achieved in the season. In the following final in Gelsenkirchen they were defeated by last year's champions Düsseldorf Panther in front of 10,000 spectators. In the following year, however, the relegation could only just be prevented. In 1984 the quarter-finals of the German championship were reached, in 1985 the seventh place and in 1986 the second round.
Then began a steady decline. In 1988 the Redskins had to relegate to the second division, where they could hold out until 1993. Then he was relegated to the regional league and in 1995 even to the major league. In 1996 the team was strengthened. In the following year he was promoted to the regional league and in 1998 even made it to the second division. The year 1999 in the second division was not successful. The team broke up and there was no more game operation.
In the tradition of the Mannheim Redskins, the Viernheim Redskins, who started a rebuilding from 2001 in Viernheim and then moved to Bürstadt as TV Bürstadt Redskins , and the Rhein Pirates in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , which formed from the Rhein-Neckar- Teams Mannheim in 2000 Redskins, Ludwigshafen Titans and Worms Wizzards formed.
