The American Football World Championship , officially the American Football World Cup , IFAF World Cup or IFAF World Championship , is an American football tournament between national teams that takes place every four years . The organizer is IFAF , the world association in American football .

history

The American Football World Cup has been held every four years since 1999. The finals of the first tournament took place between June 24th and July 4th 1999 in Palermo , Italy . The national teams of Italy, Australia , Finland , Japan , Mexico and Sweden were qualified . The game was initially played in two groups. Then the placement games and the final took place. In the game for fifth place, Australia beat Finland 10-7. Sweden finished third with a 38:13 against Italy. In the final, Japan won 6-0 against Mexico in extra time.

The final round of the second American Football World Cup took place from July 10 to 12, 2003 in Hanau and Wiesbaden , Germany . The national teams of Germany, Japan, France and Mexico were qualified . The semi-finals took place on July 10th in the stadium on Berliner Strasse in Wiesbaden. Japan defeated France 23-6 and Mexico beat Germany 21:17. The finals were held on July 12th in the Herbert Dröse Stadium in Hanau. In the game for third place, the German national team beat France 36: 7. In the final, Japan prevailed again with a 34:14 against Mexico and became world champions for the second time.

The third finals of the tournament took place July 7-15 in Kawasaki , Japan. It was played in the city ​​stadium, among other places . The fourth edition of the American Football World Cup was held for the first time in three cities, namely in Vienna , Innsbruck and Graz , Austria .

After the planned hosting of the American Football World Cup 2015 in Sweden had to be canceled for financial reasons, the United States stepped in as the organizer of the fifth edition of the tournament. From July 8-19, 2015, it took place at Fawcett Stadium in Canton , Ohio .
