Ola John (born May 19, 1992 in Zwedru , Liberia ) is a Dutch football player who plays on the position of winger . His two brothers Collins and Paddy are also soccer players.
origin
At the age of two, John fled Liberia with his mother and two brothers to the Netherlands . His father lost his life during the Liberian Civil War .

FC Twente
Still active for DES Nijverdal from 1998 to 2002 , John, like his two brothers, joined the FC Twente youth academy . For the 2010/11 season, John moved up to the professional squad and completed his first league game on November 20, 2010 (15th matchday) in the 1: 2 defeat in the home game against AZ Alkmaar . He scored his first goal on March 13, 2011 (27th matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against VVV-Venlo with the winning goal in the 83rd minute. In his debut season, he completed 13 league games and scored one goal. He also won the KNVB Cup , the Dutch club cup , with FC Twente .
In the 2011/12 season , John became a regular in Enschede thanks to his good performances. This season he increased his performance and scored on December 4, 2011 (15th matchday), in a 6-2 win in the away game against FC Utrecht, his first two- goal success . In his second season, John completed 33 of 34 league games and scored eight goals. In addition, he won the Johan Cruijff Schaal , the Dutch Supercup, with FC Twente .
Benfica Lisbon
For the 2012/13 season , John moved to the Portuguese first division club Benfica Lisbon , where he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2017. With his team he reached the final of the Europa League , but had to admit defeat to Chelsea in the final . At the final of the Taça da Liga on May 29, 2015, John scored the winning goal to make it 2-1 against Marítimo Funchal .
Hamburger SV (loan)
After John only made eight appearances across all competitions in his second season at Benfica, he was loaned to Bundesliga club Hamburger SV in January 2014 until the end of the 2013/14 season. On January 26, 2014 (18th matchday) he made his debut in the Bundesliga in the 3-0 defeat in the home game against FC Schalke 04 , when he came on for Pierre-Michel Lasogga in the 24th minute . He played eight Bundesliga games for HSV, all of which were lost. After the season, John, who could not convince at HSV, returned to Lisbon.
Reading FC (Loan)
On the last day of the summer transfer period, John moved on loan to the English second division club Reading FC .
Deportivo La Coruña (Loan)
In January 2017, John was loaned to Deportivo La Coruña for half a year .
Vitória Guimarães
In 2018, John moved from Benfica to Vitória Guimarães .
National team
After John had already played for the Dutch U17 and U19 national team, he made his debut on February 6, 2013 in the senior national team , which played 1-1 in the test international against Italy 's national team in Amsterdam . In the same year he took part with the U21 national team in the European Championship finals in Israel . In his three tournament games he scored his first international goal in a 5-1 win in the group game against Russia with the goal to 3-1 in the 69th minute.
