João Carlos Teixeira - with full name João Carlos Vilaça Teixeira , also called João Teixeira and partly as João Carlos - (born January 18, 1993 in Braga ) is a Portuguese football player .

Career

In the club

Beginnings in Portugal

Teixeira started his career in his hometown with Sporting Braga and joined the youth department of Sporting Lisbon in 2004 . In the 2011/12 season he was there in the extended squad of the first team and sat on the bench for the first time in the Europa League games against FC Zurich and Lazio Rome without being used.

Change to the island

In February Teixeira moved to the Premier League for Liverpool FC . In Liverpool he first played in the academy until the end of the 2011/12 season.

In September 2013, Teixeira was loaned to the third-rate Football League One at Brentford FC . The loan was originally scheduled until January 5, 2014. After two short appearances, the loan was ended in early October 2013 and he returned to Liverpool. On February 12, 2014 Teixeira made his debut under coach Brendan Rodgers in the Premier League when he came on for Raheem Sterling in the 82nd minute of the 3-2 away win at Fulham FC .

In mid-August 2014, Teixeira moved to the second-rate Football League Championship for the Brighton & Hove Albion team trained by ex-Liverpool player Sami Hyypiä until the end of the 2014/15 season . There he was able to assert himself and completed 32 league games - mostly in the starting line-up - in which he scored six goals - including two doubles against Ipswich Town and Birmingham City on matchdays 27 and 32.

For the season 2015/16 returned Teixeira again back to Liverpool. There he came under the new coach Jürgen Klopp to appearances in the League and FA Cup and sat on the bench more often in the Premier League, but was only substituted once. Teixeira scored his first goal for Liverpool FC in a 3-0 win in the replay of the 3rd FA Cup round against fourth division club Exeter City . Teixeira gained match practice in a few appearances in the U21.

Change back to Portugal

After Teixeira failed to assert himself at Liverpool FC, he returned to his home country for the 2016/17 season and joined FC Porto , with which he received a four-year contract dated June 30, 2020. After a year at FC Porto, he was loaned out to Sporting Braga for a year . After his return he was sold directly to Vitória Guimarães , where he became a regular player.

In the national team

Teixeira went through the U-16 to U-21 junior national teams of Portugal from October 2008 to November 2014. With the U-17 selection , he took part in the U-17 European Championship 2010 in Liechtenstein .
