MC Smook (born September 30, 1992 , real name: Marc Tophoven) is a German rapper .

biography

MC Smook grew up in Issum and started rapping in elementary school. He released his first recording in 2006 at the age of 14. Other musical projects and mixtapes followed , which he made available for download online .

MC Smook achieved national fame in 2014 when the well-known rapper Money Boy noticed him and together with him recorded a remix for his track Kola with Ice . Thus he became part of the Glo Up Dinero Gang founded by Money Boy , which also includes LGoony , Spinning 9, The Ji and Hustensaft Jüngling . In the following years many collaborations with members of the Glo Up Dinero Gang appeared, with whom he also went on tour regularly. For example, in 2015 he played at Germany's largest hip-hop festival, the Splash! , together with the Cologne rapper LGoony.

In the same year, after numerous mixtapes for free download, MC Smook released his first digital album Ready to Live , which received positive reviews in the print edition of the specialist magazine Juice and on other hip-hop portals.

In 2016 MC Smook gained with social media - app Snapchat great attention and was in an article in the newspaper Die Welt with American rappers like Snoop Dogg or DJ Khaled compared.

In the same year MC Smook began to produce more political rap. At the end of 2016, his project Germany creates himself up appeared , which includes a mixtape, a short film and a five-language audio book in a free download package . In spring 2017 he went on a solo tour through Germany with the adventure tour. On October 26, 2018, MC Smook released his second studio album Paläste aus Schrebs on digital distribution channels. In addition, a deluxe box of the same name was released, which only contains a few everyday objects and is a criticism of the deluxe boxes ubiquitous in German rap.

MC Smooks Rap makes use of various genres , including the trap . He often draws musical influences from American producers such as DJ Khaled . In his texts he uses simple words in which he often packs an ironic message, e.g. B. shed light on the rapeseed scene, politics or current trends. He produces all of his mix tapes and albums himself without a label in the background.

Controversy between MC Smook and Frauke Petry

In August 2016, MC Smook published a screenshot of a Facebook message that AfD politician Frauke Petry had written to him. There she asks the rapper not to delete his Disstrack Wähl 'not die AfD from the Internet, which he uploaded to YouTube in March 2016 . Smook then made a music video for the track.

There is no official confirmation of the authenticity of this message, but MC Smook continues to claim in a video interview with the hip hop magazine "Rap.de" that this message is not a photo montage.
