Damon Leitch

Damon Leitch (born December 23, 1992 in Invercargill ) is a New Zealand racing driver . He competed in the Toyota Racing Series from 2011 to 2015 .

Career

Leitch began his motorsport career at the age of eight in karting . In 2007 he switched to the single-seater racing in the New Zealand Formula Ford . He initially only took part in three races and was 23rd in the drivers' championship. In the next season Leitch improved to tenth place in the drivers' standings. He also finished sixth in the New Zealand South Island Formula Ford Championship. In the 2008/2009 season, Leitch won a race in New Zealand's Formula Ford and was fifth overall. In the following season he remained without a win, but still improved to fourth championship place. In addition, he made guest starts in Formula Ford in New Zealand's South Island in the 2009/2010 season.

In 2011 Leitch moved to the Toyota Racing Series , New Zealand's highest monoposto racing series, to Victory Motor Racing . With a third place as the best result, he finished the season in eighth place in the championship. Within the team he lost the duel against Daniil Kwjat , who skipped an event and finished fifth. In 2012 Leitch completed another season for Victory Motor Racing in the Toyota Racing Series. On the first race weekend in his hometown Invercargill , he achieved his best result to date with a second place and scored the most points at this event. So he took over the championship leadership. His first victory in the Toyota Racing Series followed at the next event in Timaru . While Leitch always crossed the finish line among the top ten pilots in the first nine races and achieved five podium positions, he did not get past twelfth place in the last six races. In the drivers' championship he finally took third place.

In 2013 Leitch stayed with Victory Motor Racing in the Toyota Racing Series. With a second place as the best result, he finished the season in eighth place. In 2014 Leitch contested his fourth season of the Toyota Racing Series for Victory Motor Racing. Four second places were his best results, but he didn't manage to win. In the drivers' standings, he improved to third place. In 2015 Leitch competed again for Victory Motor Racing in the Toyota Racing Series. With two fifth places as the best results, he reached seventh place overall.

Personal

Damon Leitch's younger brother Brendon Leitch is also a racing car driver. Leitch was named after the British racing driver Damon Hill .
