Luc Castaignos (born September 27, 1992 in Schiedam ) is a Dutch football player . The striker has been under contract with South Korean first division club Gyeongnam FC since February 20, 2019 .
Career
youth
His family's ancestors come from Les Landes , 100 km from Bordeaux in the south-west of France . His father, Jean-Luc, was born in France and his mother is from Cape Verde , but now has Italian nationality. In October 1990, two years before Luc was born, the parents came to the Netherlands . He was born in Schiedam , South Holland, and grew up there in a problematic neighborhood with a high proportion of immigrants.
society
Luc Castaignos made his professional debut for Feyenoord Rotterdam on September 24, 2009 when he came on as a substitute for Harkemase Boys in the final stages of the cup game. Overall, he came in the 2009/10 season on three league and two cup appearances for Feyenoord, but could not score a goal. In contrast, he was already the most successful goalscorer of his team in the 2010/11 season with 15 league goals. Nevertheless, the season was disappointing for Castaignos and Feyenoord: In the league, they finished the season only in 10th place, in the Cup and the UEFA Europa League they were eliminated early.
Castaignos signed a contract with Inter Milan in January 2011 , but only moved to the Italian metropolis after the season was over. He made his competitive debut for Inter on August 6, 2011 in the game for the Italian Supercup , when he came on for Joel Chukwuma Obi in the closing stages of the game against AC Milan . In a league game against AC Siena on November 27, 2011, Castaignos scored his only competitive goal for Inter when he scored the decisive 1-0 in the 90th minute. In February 2012, Castaignos was banned from playing three league games because a video recording of a league game against FC Bologna showed how he spits in the direction of his opponent Andrea Raggi . Castaignos didn't hit Raggi, but the pictures left no doubt as to his intention.
After Castaignos could not prevail at Inter, he moved back to the Eredivisie at the end of July 2012 for FC Twente from Enschede . He signed a four-year contract there.
For the 2015/16 season , Castaignos moved to the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2018. On August 29, 2015 (3rd matchday) he scored in the 4-1 win in the away game against VfB Stuttgart with the goal to make it 2-1 in the 42nd minute and to 4-1 in the 87th minute his first two Bundesliga goals. In total, he scored four goals in 19 league games for Eintracht and scored once in the DFB Cup in two appearances.
At the end of August 2016, Castaignos moved to the Portuguese first division club Sporting Lisbon , with whom he signed a three-year contract. The 2017/18 season he was awarded entirely to Vitesse Arnhem . In the first half of the 2018/19 season he played three more times for Sporting Lisbon before being transferred to the South Korean club Gyeongnam FC for free in February 2019 .
National team
Castaignos ran for various youth teams of the Dutch national football team . At the U-17 European Championship in 2009 , where Castaignos scored three goals, he and his team reached the final against hosts Germany .
Play style
Castaignos is described as a fast, physically strong player with a good overview. His preferred foot is the right one, but he also seeks the end with his left and is also a strong header player. In his youth, Castaignos was often compared to Thierry Henry , by which both his playing style and his appearance are meant.
