Joel Chukwuma Obi (born May 22, 1991 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian football player .
Career
Obi began his career in his native Lagos with NEPA Lagos , where he played on the youth team. In 2005 he was brought to Italy to join the youth department of Inter Milan . In the next few years he played with Inter in the Primavera championship and won the championship title in the 2006/07 season. As a result, the midfielder acted in various other youth teams in Milan and was appointed to the professional team for the first time under José Mourinho in the 2009/10 season , where he was denied an assignment for the time being.
Under his successor, the Spaniard Rafael Benítez , Obi came in the strong midfield of the Nerazzurri on September 29, 2010 to his competitive debut as a professional and was substituted in the 80th minute for Dejan Stanković in the UEFA Champions League game against Werder Bremen . On October 17, 2010 he also played for the first time in Serie A and was used in the away game at Cagliari Calcio .
At the end of January 2011, Parma FC bought part of the Nigerian's transfer rights. However, both clubs agreed that Obi should stay with the Milanese at least for the rest of the 2010/11 season .
Also in the 2011/12 season Obi was part of the Nerazzurri A-squad and was able to celebrate his final breakthrough there: He was used in 37 games of his team, 17 times he was on the starting line-up. In a league game against AC Cesena , he also scored his first competitive goal for the Milanese. In January 2012, Inter also bought back part of the transfer rights that Parma FC held to Obi.
In this 2012/13 season , the young midfielder only made four competitive appearances due to various injuries. In September 2013, shortly before the end of the transfer window, he was loaned to FC Parma for one season .
For the 2015/16 season Obi moved to Turin FC .
