Ceslas Spicq

Ceslas Spicq OP , baptismal name: Bernard Spicq (born April 29, 1901 in Saint-Mihiel in Lorraine , † January 14, 1992 in Freiburg ) was a French Dominican brother.

Life

He studied theology at the Faculty of the Dominicans Le Saulchoi in Cain, Belgium, near Tournai, and after completing his studies, he was professor of exegesis at the Order's college there from 1928 to 1939 .

In 1930 he attended the Ecole biblique in Jerusalem . From 1939 to 1941 he was drafted, served in the French army and became a prisoner of war , from which he returned in 1943 and became professor of exegesis at the University of Salamanca (until 1944).

After the end of the war, he settled in Switzerland and was professor of exegesis of the New Testament at the University of Freiburg from 1953 to 1971 .

Act

He was a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission and was known for his rich activity through lectures, sermons and pastoral care. He left an extensive body of work with works on biblical conceptual history and lexicography , on the history of exegesis, Bible commentaries and writings on spirituality in the New Testament.
