Matthew "Matt" Savage (born May 12, 1992 in Sudbury , Massachusetts ) is an American musician , savant and autistic .

Life

Matt Savage grew up with his parents, Diane and Lawrence "Larry" Savage. Its development started very early. He started running early and began learning to read when he was only 18 months old. He was diagnosed with autism when he was three years old . As a toddler, Matt couldn't stand any noise or music, and even his mother wasn't allowed to touch him until he was four.

At the age of six, he quickly learned to play the piano . For almost a year he then occupied himself with classical music before he discovered jazz , which he then focused on. In autumn 1999 he started at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston to Massachusetts study . He also continued to occupy himself with classical music. He and his younger sister Rebecca were both homeschooled . Matt's talents also include hyperlexia and perfect pitch , combined with extremely high intelligence . Thanks to his talents, he was able to win a regional geography competition, the Statewide geography bee .

Despite his youth and even without formal instruction in musical construction, Matt has managed to become an outstanding musician and composer . He has released several albums with the Matt Savage Trio and also as a soloist . At the age of 14, he also performed with Chaka Khan and other well-known singers. Matt's compositions emphasize technique, but are nonetheless accessible to the listener and often humorous.

Matt received several awards, including from the piano manufacturer Bösendorfer . He is the only child who has succeeded in this in the company's 175-year history.

Matt has performed for heads of state internationally and has appeared on several television and radio programs including Late Night with Conan O'Brien , The Today Show, and All Things Considered . At the age of 14, he was compared to other savants in a CNN report on the human brain in which he was described as an "outstanding savant." Matt also appeared in several documentaries on Savants.
