Arsène Becuwe

Arsène Becuwe (born November 27, 1891 in Bruges , † February 28, 1992 in Sint-Kruis near Bruges) was a Belgian composer and conductor .

Life

At the age of 17 Becuwe signed up as a military musician with the music corps of the 4th Line Regiment in Bruges . It was not until 1940 that he left this music corps. He studied harmony and counterpoint privately with Paul Gilson .

In 1925 he became conductor of the fanfare orchestra De Katolieke Burgersgilde in Lichtervelde , in the Belgian province of West Flanders, and held this position until 1966. In 1945 he was also conductor of the Harmonie St. Cecilia in his hometown of Bruges ; a position he also held until 1966. At the same time he was also conducting the Sint-Cecilia Fanfare Orchestra in Ruddervoorde , in the Belgian province of West Flanders . He was also the director of the large mixed choir Sint Lutgardis in Bruges.
