Benjamin "Ben" Kantarovski (born January 20, 1992 in Newcastle ) is an Australian football player who is under contract with the Newcastle United Jets in the A-League .
Career
Kantarovski signed a contract with Newcastle United Jets for the first time in January 2008 at the age of 15 , making him the youngest player in the history of the A-League to be awarded a professional contract. He made his league debut on August 15, 2008 at the age of 16 against the Central Coast Mariners and also set an age record as the youngest league player with this use; which was broken in January 2009 by his teammate James Virgili .
At the end of the season, Kantarovski was named Player of the Year within the club, even though he was the only player for Australia to take part in both the U-16 Asian Cup and the U-19 Asian Cup in 2008 and was therefore not available for league games for two months.
For the U-16s he scored two goals when reaching the quarter-finals, with the U-19s he made a total of two appearances when making the semifinals. In both tournaments, the Australian team failed in the selections of the United Arab Emirates. In the spring of 2009 he was invited by national coach Pim Verbeek to the training camp of the Australian senior team for the first time , but was not in the 18-man squad in the subsequent match against Kuwait.
