Jan Polanc (born May 6, 1992 in Kranj ) is a Slovenian cyclist .

Career

Jan Polanc was Slovenian champion in road racing in the junior class in 2009. The next year he won the individual time trial title and was fifth in the road race of the Junior World Championship and he won a stage in the Giro della Lunigiana .

Between 2011 and mid-2013 Polanc drove for the Slovenian Continental Team Radenska . During this time he won national individual time titles of the U23, the one-day race Piccolo Giro di Lombardia and the overall standings and a stage of the Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia .

He then switched to the Italian ProTeam Lampre-Merida , for which he achieved his greatest success to date at the Giro d'Italia 2015 with the victory on the 5th stage after Abetone , after being part of a smaller group of outsiders at the beginning of the stage. from which he could withdraw on the target slope. On the 4th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2017 with a mountain finish on Mount Etna , he was able to repeat this success in a comparable way.
