Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia

The Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia is an Italian road bike race .

The stage race for has been held in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia since 1962 . Until 2004, the race was reserved for U23 class riders; since 2006, it has been part of the UCI Europe Tour in UCI category 2.2 .

Record winners with two successes each are the Italians Alessio Peccolo , Gilberto Simoni , Rodolfo Ongarato and the winner of the first edition Giovanni de Franceschi and the Ukrainian Ruslan Pidgornyy .

During the third stage of the 2010 edition on 10 September from bounced Schio native Italians Thomas Casarotto on the descent of the Sella Ciampigotto (1797 m) in the district Pesariis the municipality of Prato Carnico unrestrained in a car parked at the left edge of the roadway Chevrolet Optra ( Notchback variant in black paintwork) and died 4 days later of severe cerebral haemorrhage .
