Maurizio Piovani

Maurizio Piovani (born July 17, 1957 in Cremona ) is a former Italian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His first significant success was winning the Italian championship in the road race of amateurs in 1980. In the following year he moved to the professional drivers . His greatest successes as a professional were stage wins at the Giro d'Italia in 1985 and 1986 in the team time trial and second place at the Coppa Bernocchi in 1983 . He was a long-time helper of Giuseppe Saronni . He drove eleven times in the Giro d'Italia and had his best result with 38th place in 1991 . He competed in the Tour de France in 1987 and was classified as 120th. In 1993 he ended his career. He then became sporting director for Team Lampre .
