Tommy Grupe (born March 29, 1992 in Rostock ) is a German soccer player who can be used as a right-footed defensive player in central defense as well as in the sixth position. In his career so far, Grupe, who also played 18 times for the youth national teams of the DFB , played for Hansa Rostock and Preußen Münster in particular in the 3rd division . He has been under contract with the regional league club VfB Lübeck since summer 2018 .

Career

Youth in Mecklenburg

Born in Rostock, Grupe began his footballing career in the area around his hometown, where he first joined the FSV from Kritzmow in 1997 . As early as 1999, Grupe moved to Hansa Rostock as an F-youth , whose youth teams he was to play in the following twelve years.

Grupe also drew the attention of the German Football Association to himself from the C-youth , so that he was invited to individual courses for the U-15 national team in September 2006 . On April 20, 2007 Grupe finally made his debut for the selection in the game against Switzerland in front of 12,000 spectators and was used by coach Bernd Stöber in the second and last U-15 game of this year against Poland . In the following year, Grupe also established himself as a regular player in Germany's U-16 team , so that between September 2007 and May 2008 he played in a total of eleven out of thirteen possible games and scored one goal. In the last of these games, Grupe and his Rostock teammate Pelle Jensen also formed the central defense of the German team.

Hansa Grupe was meanwhile Youth B team moved up in October 2006, in the supervised by Roland Kroos and had U-17 Regional newly created to qualify the team for the summer of 2007 U-17 Bundesliga contributed. In this group, now also belonging to the B-youth, scored seven goals in a total of 26 appearances in the premiere season 2007/08 and thus made a significant contribution to the fifth place in the final table this season. In the following season 2008/09 , in which he was also captain of his team, Grupe ran 21 times for Hansa in the U-17 Bundesliga, where he was the top goalscorer of his team with eleven goals, which was fourth at the end of the season occupied. Due to his performances for Rostock's U-17s, Grupe had also been able to recommend himself for the next higher year of the Hanseatic League, for whom he completed nine missions in the 2008/09 season of the U-19 Bundesliga .

In the youth teams of the DFB, however, Grupe was only used sporadically, so that he only played three games for the U-17 team coached by Marco Pezzaiuoli and was ultimately no longer considered for the European championship that took place in Germany in early summer 2009 . In July 2009, Grupe then completed two missions for the U-18 selection before his national team career subsequently ended.

In the meantime, Grupe at Hansa also belonged to the U-19s supervised by Michael Hartmann . With 18 appearances in the U-19 Bundesliga 2009/10 he reached the final of the German Youth Championship with the team , in which Grupe could only be used in the second semi-final game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 due to injury . In the final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , Grupe played again for Rostock, with Hansa becoming German A youth champions for the first time with a 1-0 win. In the following 2010/11 season, the team now supervised by Roland Kroos was no longer able to build on this success, so that Grupe was only able to contribute to fifth place in the final table with three goals in 17 missions during the season. In the DFB Junior Cup, however, the team reached the 2010/11 final , which was only lost to SC Freiburg on penalties.

Groups in Rostock and Münster

In the summer of 2011, Grupe, who had now outgrown the youth teams, was initially taken over as the second representative in Rostock in the men's area. With the team trained by Axel Rietentiet , he then played in the 2011/12 season of the fifth-class Oberliga Nordost .

When in spring 2012 only a few defenders of the professional team were available for the second division game against Energie Cottbus , Grupe was used by coach Wolfgang Wolf on April 10, 2012 for the first time in the 2nd Bundesliga . However, this should remain his only use in the second division season 2011/12 . By the end of the season, Grupe achieved promotion to the regional league with the reserve team ; as the professional team ultimately relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 3rd division , the reserve team lost the right to promotion. Grupe then turned down an offer to extend his expiring contract with Hansa.

In SC Preußen Münster , Grupe found a new employer, with whom he signed a contract initially limited to 2014 in May 2012. With Münster, Grupe started in the 2012/13 season under coach Pavel Dotchev as well as with Hansa in the 3rd division, but was only used on the 16th matchday by substitution in the final minutes. There were also three missions for Münster's reserve team in the sixth-class Westphalia League , in which he scored a total of two goals. Grupe then dissolved his contract with the Prussians in December 2012 and returned to Hansa, who in turn entered into a contract with Grupe dated until 2014. For Hansa, Grupe then completed twelve appearances in the third division, but was only able to keep the league with the team trained by Marc Fascher on the penultimate matchday.

In the following season he made 27 league appearances under coach Andreas Bergmann and scored three goals for the cog. In March 2014, Hansa Rostock and Grupe extended the contract for a further two years until June 30, 2016. Immediately after the contract extension, Grupe was seriously injured during training and suffered a cruciate ligament and medial meniscus tear. It wasn't until March 14, 2015 that Grupe came back to his next third division game in the away game in Bielefeld (2: 3), after he had previously played in the second team. Grupe also played two games in the 2014/15 Landespokal , which he ultimately won with Hansa in the final against TSG Neustrelitz (1-0).

In the 2015/16 season , Grupe initially made five appearances in the league, played in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (4: 5 p. E.), before he had to take a longer break due to another cruciate ligament tear. In the ongoing league game operation, Grupe was only used again from the 37th matchday. Without being used, he was in the state cup final against FC Schönberg 95 (4: 3 nE) in the cog squad . In June 2016, Grupe extended his contract with Hansa for another year. Grupe made twenty-four third division appearances in the 2016/17 season in which he scored three goals. After his sixteenth assignment, his contract in Rostock was automatically extended for another year. Another injury ended the 2016/17 season for Grupe from matchday 30. Grupe came to his next appearance on matchday 13 of the third division season 2017/18 during the game against VfL Osnabrück (2-0). Tommy Grupe came on in the 85th minute for Amaury Bischoff . His coach Pavel Dotchev also used Grupe as a substitute for the rest of the season. In April 2018, his employer Hansa Rostock announced the separation from the home grown group at the end of the season. His last assignment on board the cog was on May 21, 2018 in the state cup final against FC Mecklenburg Schwerin (2: 1). Thus his active time at Hansa Rostock ended with a title win.

VfB Lübeck

Gruppe moved to the Regionalliga Nord for VfB Lübeck for the 2018/19 season . Under the head coach Rolf Martin Landerl , he was part of the permanent staff and played 33 league games (all from the start) in which he scored 7 goals. The 2019/20 season was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March. At that time, VfB Lübeck was in 1st place after 25 games and only Weiche Flensburg had to accept fewer goals, but only played 23 games. Grupe had been in the starting line-up in all games and scored 6 goals. After the end of the season, VfB Lübeck was declared champion and promoted to the 3rd division , as the northern relay was the direct promoter this year. Even before the start of the season, the defensive player was chosen as the new captain to succeed Daniel Halke, who had left the club.
