Jean Aurenche
Jean Aurenche (born September 11, 1903 in Pierrelatte , † September 29, 1992 in Bandol ) was a French screenwriter .
Life
Jean Aurenche began his film career making commercials in the 1920s and 1930s. His first screenplay was written in 1936 and just two years later he wrote his most famous work on the basis of the Hôtel du Nord . He worked with co-writer Pierre Bost on a number of films by director Claude Autant-Lara . Aurenche was active as a writer until the last years of his life, in the end several times for films by Bertrand Tavernier . He was awarded the César for Best Screenplay in 1976 for the film When the Festival Begins ... and in 1977 for The Judge and the Murderer .
His sister Marie-Berthe Aurenche (1906–1960) was the second wife of the surrealist painter Max Ernst .
