Hoseason Island is an approximately 9 km long and 4.5 km wide island in the northern part of the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located about 20 km north-northeast of Liège Island and 30 km west of Trinity Island . It is separated from Low Island in the Archipelago of the South Shetland Islands by the Bransfield Strait .
The island's name first appeared on a map by seal hunter George Powell in 1828 . It is named after James Hoseason , first mate of the Sprightley under Captain Edward Hughes, who operated in these waters between 1824 and 1825 on behalf of the British whaling company Samuel Enderby & Sons .
