Liège Iceland ( French Ile Liège , Spanish Isla Lieja , each loosely translated Lüttichinsel ) is an island in the Palmer Archipelago off the northwestern coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located immediately northeast of the Brabant Island , from which it is separated by Bouquet Bay .
The island was mapped during the Belgica expedition (1897-1899) under the direction of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery , who named it after the Belgian Province de Liège ( German Province of Liège ).
