Frank Armi (born October 12, 1918 in Portland , Oregon , † November 28, 1992 in Hanford , California ) was an American racing car driver .

Career

Armi started in eight races for the AAA National Series between 1950 and 1954 , with his best placement being a 12th place in 1951 in San José.

In 1951 and 1953 he tried unsuccessfully to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 miles . At his only start in 1954 , after 141 laps, he handed his car over to George Fonder for 24 laps , and then covered the rest of the distance himself. He reached 19th place in a Silnes - Offenhauser . seven laps behind winner Bill Vukovich . Since the race was part of the Formula 1 driver’s world championship , he also has a start in a Grand Prix in the statistics.

Armi drove car races into the 1960s and then worked as a sound engineer for cinema and television.
