Amadeus August

Amadeus August (born May 6, 1942 in Breslau , German Reich ; died July 6, 1992 in Munich , Bavaria , Germany ) was a German actor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Amadeus August devoted himself to language studies at the University of Tübingen and trained at the Bochum drama school. He got his first engagement at the Landesbühne Hannover, after which he played at the Little Comedy Munich, at the Renaissance Theater in Berlin, at the Theater am Dom in Cologne, at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, at the Schauspielhaus (Vienna) and at the festival Heppenheim, where he took over the title role in Goethe's Faust in 1985 .

On television, August was seen in various crime series such as Tatort , Der Alte and Derrick . In the Barbara Hutton story he played the Duke Kurt Hardenberg Reventlow, the father of Lance Reventlow .

He had his greatest success in 1971 in the ZDF television series Quentin Durward . In the adventure stories based on Walter Scott , he played the daring title hero, a role that made him a public favorite overnight in Germany . In 1972 August received the bronze Bravo Otto in the Male TV Star category and even recorded a single entitled "I give you my tenderness", which ZDF had him present on January 6, 1973 in Ilja Richter's disco . In the same year he also shot the 64th episode of the crime series Der Kommissar (A girl at night on the street) for ZDF in Munich , which was first broadcast on October 5, 1973. Successes that he could no longer build on. In addition to his acting activities, he also worked as a voice actor and lent his voice a. a. Edward Albert (Butterflies Are Free) , Richard Chamberlain ( Return of the Musketeers ) and Roy Thinnes ( Falcon Crest ) .

The homosexual, but marketed as a womanizer, Amadeus August died of complications from an HIV infection. His grave is in the Unterhaching cemetery .
