Raban Adelmann (politician)

Raban Michael Otto Graf Adelmann of Adelmannsfelden (* 28. September 1912 in Dusseldorf , † 25. January 1992 in Castle Schaubeck in Steinheim-Kleinbottwar ) was a German politician of the CDU and owner of a winery.

Life and work

Adelmann came from the old Swabian noble family of Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden . He was a son of Sigmund Maria Graf Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden , District President of Cologne, and Irma von Hake and a brother of the art historian Georg Sigmund Graf Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden . After the death of his father, he was adopted by his uncle Raban Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden in 1926 . He attended the Kreuzgasse high school in Cologne and studied law and history in Bonn , Cologne and at Williams College in the USA . In Bonn he became a member of the Catholic student union K.St.V. Frisia Bonn in the KV . From 1935 to 1937 he was a trainee lawyer and then went into the diplomatic service . There he was initially an attaché in the cultural department before he was posted abroad (1938 to May 1939 in Prague , 1939 to 1942 as legation secretary at the embassy of the German Reich in Rio de Janeiro ) until diplomatic relations were broken off on January 28, 1942 . From 24 November 1942 to 1945 he participated as a soldier in the Air Force on world war II in part. He joined the NSDAP on August 1, 1939 , and was also a member of the SA .

After the death of his uncle in 1935 he took over the family- owned Graf Adelmann winery at Schaubeck Castle in Kleinbottwar near Ludwigsburg . In 1937 he joined the diplomatic service of the German Reich. From 1939 to 1942 he was employed at the embassy in Brazil. In 1941, in Rio de Janeiro , he married Franziska Klippgen (1912–2001), the stepdaughter of the German embassy counselor Martin Schlimpert , and they had five children. Adelmann became a Wehrmacht soldier at the end of 1942 .

Adelmann was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1961 . As a member of the CDU , he represented the Ludwigsburg constituency in parliament. In 1961 he ran in the same constituency, but could not win it again. From 1962 to 1967 he was director of NATO's information department in Paris . Adelmann was also a member of the district council in the Ludwigsburg district and of Kleinbottwar's municipal council . From December 12, 1970 to March 16, 1974 he was chairman of the CDU district association in Ludwigsburg.

Adelmann was founding chairman of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) Württemberg e. V. from 1975 to 1985. In 1978 he handed over the management of the Graf Adelmann winery to his son Michael Raban Wolfram Anton Adelmann (* 1947), who from 1985 to 1993 was also his successor as chairman of the VDP Württemberg.
