Schaubeck Castle

The castle Schaubeck is built from the 13th century, the castle expanded Höhenburg between Steinheim an der Murr and Kleinbottwar in the district of Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg . The castle, which is privately owned by the Graf Adelmann family, is also the seat of the Graf Adelmann winery .

history

The first documentary mention dates back to 1272, when the Ministerials Bertold and Konrad von Schaubeck, Baden fiefdoms and marshals from Besigheim am Neckar, began to build the castle on a steep slope on the remains of a Roman country house . Only the remains of walls and foundations can be seen of the former construction of a tower; a clear indentation suggests that there was a moat around the castle.

In 1392 the castle and the associated village Kleinbottwar were sold to Hans Urbach. Before Georg von Nippenburg took over the castle, the Truchsessen von Stetten briefly owned the castle in 1435 . After Nippenburg's son-in-law Dietrich von Plieningen was enfeoffed by Count Eberhard V. von Württemberg on December 20, 1480 with the Schaubeck castle and half of the court and bailiwick over Kleinbottwar, he began the reconstruction of the castle, which lasted until 1642. Representative purposes and living comfort were probably the focus of the renovation. A wall that could have belonged to the outer bailey has been preserved from the time before the renovation . Only the core castle and the conspicuous stair tower are verifiable and well preserved . Despite the renovations, the fortified characteristics of the castle have been preserved to this day; For example, there are no windows on the lower floors. Inside the facility, the renovation work resulted in an inner courtyard, framed by neat half-timbered facades .

In 1645 the male line of the Lords of Plieningen died out. The Lords of Gaisberg came into possession of the castle through the daughters of the Plieninger family , who then sold it on to the Lords of Kniestedt at Heutingsheim and Rübgarten. The striking north and west façades with the painted corner blocks in red and purple were created between 1749 and 1765. Elements of the Renaissance and Baroque characterize the image of the palace.

The von Kniestedt-Schaubeck family died out with Carl Freiherr von Kniestedt-Schaubeck in 1853, and the castle then fell to Felix Freiherr von Brusselle. Via his daughter Sophie, the castle passed to the family Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden in 1877 . In 1914 it was inherited by the Graf Adelmann family. Raban Adelmann renovated it from 1935 and turned it into a residence. Today the castle is in a good state of preservation and is inhabited by the family of Count Adelmann. The wine shop in the castle is open to the public. The park is only open to the public during certain events, such as the bi-annual Wine and Culture Days.
