Bönnigheim Castle

The Bönnigheim Castle , also known as the Old Castle , is the ruin of a Ganerbeburg on Burgstrasse in the west of the old town of Bönnigheim , Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was part of the city fortifications and later became the property of the Ganerbe . In 1338 the castle was owned by Fritz von Sachsenheim . From 1388 the four heirs Sachsenheim, Neipperg , Liebenstein and Woellenwarth shared the castle.

In 1525 the castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War, rebuilt in 1546 and the so-called Liebenstein part demolished in 1679 and a wine cellar built. In 1898 the round tower was given a conical roof and the bell from the Cyriakus Church from 1359. In 1979 the castle was renovated .

investment

The rectangular castle complex in the northeast corner of the city fortifications was separated from the city by a wall and a moat and had a multi-storey residential building with a stair tower that still exists today leading to the former courtyard. Different window fronts and corbels on the south gable indicate multiple renovations.

Others

A green plaque at the entrance to the tower says that it was owned by Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa in 1188 as "castrum Bieneke" . However, this is not the case and is based on a faulty transfer from the Treaty of Seligenstadt from 1188, which actually refers to a “castrum Rieneke” (“R” instead of “B”).
