The Upper Castle Geisingen , also Kniestedtsches Castle or New Castle , is a castle in the Freiberg district of Geisingen in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ludwigsburg in Germany .

The area south of the Nikolauskirche is mentioned as the courtyard of the Bebenhausen monastery as early as 1356 . In 1361 the lords of Stammheim bought the land from the knight Friedrich Sturmfeder, who maintained it as a Württemberg fief . In 1592 the building is known as Maierhof owned by the Schertlin von Burtenbach family , who inherited the place after the von Stammheim family had died out in 1588. In 1720 it was bought by Friedrich Ludwig von Kniestedt , who in 1723 also built today's castle with a half-timbered construction. In 1786 the castle was sold to Tobias Bender and in 1788 to Duke Karl Eugen von Württemberg . In 1982 the city of Freiberg bought the castle grounds. The castle was renovated until 1987.
