Hoheneck Castle

The Burg Hoheneck , also castle Hohenegge called, is the ruins of a hilltop castle on the castle hill above the present district of Hoheneck of Ludwigsburg in the district of Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built around 1200 by Margrave Hermann V von Baden . 1234 belehnen the Margrave of Baden , the hacking to Hoheneck (Hack of Hohenegge, chopping Hoheneck) the castle. In 1252 a knight Wolfram von Hoheneck, "Wolframus miles de Hohennegk", is mentioned. The seal of a "Cunradus Hagonis de Hoheneg" can be found on a document from 1254. The first mention of a settlement near the castle "Hohenegge" dates back to 1291. The hoes built a housing estate next to the castle and raised it Approval of the margraves in 1345 to the city. After the people of Württemberg with their determined territorial policy had already acquired rights to the castle and the city in 1360, which they continued to pledge to the Hacken, Hoheneck probably passed completely into their possession of the Counts of Württemberg at the end of the 14th century . The castle was apparently no longer used and fell into disrepair. In 1575 it was mentioned in the Marbacher Lagerbuch that there used to be a little church , probably a chapel, in the outer bailey .

In 1643 the castle was described as destroyed. In Kieser's view from 1682, high ring walls and a palas (then called a castle) can still be seen, but already without a roof. In the 18th century, the castle was largely demolished and used for the construction of houses in the village (including the Kapff house ).

description

The remains of the wall and the north-east square corner tower are still preserved from the 25 by 30 meter castle complex with an almost square floor plan, which is located on a spur tapering south to the Neckar. The tower itself was only built romantically in 1837 as a ruin with a Romanesque ogival window opening on behalf of Freiherr von Röder ( Lieutenant General von Roeder ).

There is no interior development today. In the southeast corner, a garden house was built on a reinforced terrace that stands on the tower foundations of an old tower of the curtain wall, of which a vaulted cellar is still preserved. On the surrounding multi-tiered terraces, wine is sometimes grown again today .

In an arc from west to north, a ditch can be seen that secured the spur castle to the northwest. East to the Neckar towards which was located in front of the castle bailey , which was separated with a side wall from east to south to later place. To the north of the neck ditch, double walls are still visible. Here there are still humpback blocks in the wall composite. It is assumed that the kennel was located north and south of the inner castle . The castle itself probably did not have its own water supply, but got water from the so-called Schleifmühlquelle (1467/1619).
