The Schwieberdingen moated castle , also known as the old castle or moated castle , is a castle in the municipality of Schwieberdingen in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg . There are no visible remains of the building.

history

The moated castle was built on a castle hill in 1561. The findings unearthed during archaeological investigations in 1985 and 1986 suggest that a predecessor complex was built around 1200. The coats of arms of Friedrich von Nippenburg and his wife, a Göler from Ravensburg , which were found in the west gable of a farmhouse on the property, indicate the builders of the moated castle . The purpose of this castle in connection with the nearby Nippenburg has not yet been proven. A description from 1732 indicates a large castle. The complex has been demolished since the 18th century and the site was used as a rural property until 1985. The wall with the coat of arms turned out to be the west wall of the main building of the moated castle. This building wall was to be integrated into the new building, but collapsed in 1986 as part of the renovation work. Today the town hall of Schwieberdingen and an underground car park are located on the site.

investment

The examination of the castle hill showed that it was raised around 1200. For the construction of the moated castle in 1561, parts of the elevation were removed and cellars dug so that no remnants of a previous system could be found. A new enclosure wall was erected, which caught the excavation and removal and increased the area of the new facility. Except for part of the courtyard, the entire area was built on. The facility had a moat and a stone bridge to the east of the facility. The west wall, which collapsed in 1986, had structural features that could be identified as part of the main building with a large hall.
