The stone house, originally built around 1250, was finally expanded into a castle with a moat and drawbridge. The farm buildings belonging to the castle have not been preserved. They erected several buildings, including the half-timbered wing still preserved today, in 1584/85 and added a stair tower to the tower in 1566. In 1595 the castle received the courtyard gate, which has been preserved to this day. The drawbridge was replaced by a stone bridge. The bridge and moat were preserved until the end of the 19th century.

In 1621 the Kaltentaler sold the castle to the needy of Hohenberg ( Hochberg ). 1646 sold the emergency detention to the Bidembach family . Of these, the castle in 1748 came to Duke Carl Eugen , who is one himself Rococo - Love Room instituted. After several changes of ownership, the community of Oßweil acquired the castle in 1869 and used it as a town hall until it was incorporated into Ludwigsburg in 1922.

Then a school and later a kindergarten was set up in the castle, today the Evangelical castle kindergarten is located here. Various clubs also used rooms in the castle.
