Laura Totenhagen (born August 10, 1992 ) is a German jazz singer , classical oboist and composer. Critics highlighted her as the “mature young voice of the German jazz scene” (Anja Buchmann, Deutschlandfunk ) and as a “vocal wonder”.

Live and act

Totenhagen, who grew up in Cologne and Erftstadt, discovered the oboe for herself at the age of eleven. She was a young student with Christian Wetzel and as a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra on a European tour. Later she became interested in jazz and turned to singing; until 2016 she studied jazz singing at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . As a singer in the Bundesjazzorchester under the direction of Niels Klein , she was a soloist on his CD Grove and the Abstract Truth (2016) and toured Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Russia. Their quartet with Felix Hauptmann , Stefan Schönegg and Leif Berger emerged from their trio ; She also presented her album Foliage (Toy Piano 2017) at the Jazzfest Bonn . Together with the singers Veronika Morscher , Sabeth Pérez and Rebekka Ziegler , she runs the a cappella band Of Cabbages and Kings , which released their debut album Aura in 2018 . Further projects are her duo with guitarist Bertram Burkert and the impromptu orchestra.
