Matthias Andreas Fritz

Matthias Andreas Fritz (born December 8, 1968 ) is a German Indo-Europeanist .

Life

After graduating from the Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium in Bamberg , he studied comparative linguistics in Erlangen and Würzburg from 1989 to 1994 , where he obtained his master's degree in 1994 . The Free State of Bavaria sponsored him from 1994 to 1996 with a doctoral scholarship. From 1996 to 2001 he was a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin , where he received his doctorate in comparative linguistics in 1998 . From 2001 to 2008 he was a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin, where he completed his habilitation in comparative linguistics in 2003 . From 1993 to 1997 he was a lecturer in Sanskrit at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . From 1997 to 2005 he was lecturer in Greek and Latin linguistics at the University of Potsdam . In 1999 he taught Armenian as a lecturer at the TU Dresden . In 2007 he conducted research at the CNRS and EPHE in Paris with a Feodor Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation . In 2007 he taught German linguistics at the State University of Yerevan . From 2007 to 2011 he was Professor of Comparative Linguistics at the Yerevan State University for Languages ​​and Social Sciences, and from 2008 to 2010 he also held the Chair of German. As a Humboldt Fellow, he conducted research at the Institute for Oriental Studies of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences in 2012 . From 2013 to 2014 he was lecturer for German linguistics at the University of Erfurt . As a Humboldt Fellow, he carried out research in 2015 at the Faculty of Greek Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens . Since 2016 he has been Professor of German Studies at the University of Nizwa .

His work focuses on general and comparative linguistics, armenology, German studies and German as a foreign language , Greek studies , Indo-European studies and contrastive linguistics.
