The Yerevan State W. Bryusov University of Languages and Social Sciences is a public university in Yerevan .
history
Today's university was founded on April 1, 1935 as an institute for a two-year training course for Russian teachers. Following multiple renaming and restructuring, the university received in 2014 the name of the Yerevan State W. Brjussow -University of Languages and Social Sciences . When it entered the Bologna Process , the university switched to the system of two-stage training ( BA - MA ). BA courses have existed since 2004, MA courses since 2008. In 2013, the Ministry of Education granted approval that enables the university to offer distance learning courses for bachelor and master degrees.
Faculties
Faculty of Interpreting and Intercultural Communication
Around 1350 students are enrolled at the Faculty for Interpreting and Intercultural Communication. It is taught in eight languages. The main areas of study in the bachelor’s degree are intercultural communication, linguistics and translation. The students specialize in the Bachelor and partly also in the Master in the areas of international tourism (English), international journalism (English), cultural studies (German), cultural studies (French), translation (Armenian-English), (Armenian-German), ( Armenian-French), (Armenian-Russian-English), (Armenian-Chinese), (Armenian-Italian), (Armenian-Spanish), (Armenian-Korean).
Faculty of Russian Language, Literature and Foreign Languages
At the Faculty of Russian Language, Literature and Foreign Languages, students qualify for fields of activity at schools, universities and other institutions. In the Bachelor's program, they specialize in the areas of linguistics and Russian language, Russian language and literature, philology, pedagogy, linguistics and intercultural communication, cultural studies, English and political science. In the master’s degree, qualifications in the fields of Russian language and literature, linguistics and intercultural communication, international communication, European studies and political science can be acquired and deepened. In addition to the first foreign language (Russian), English, Polish, Bulgarian, German, French, Spanish, Italian or Arabic can be chosen as a second foreign language.
Faculty of Foreign Languages
The Faculty of Foreign Languages was opened in 2004 and is the successor to the Faculty of English, French and German. About 1700 students study at the faculty. The course qualifies as a multilingual teacher, school psychologist, philologist, etc. Students in the field of education can combine the following languages: English and French, English and German, English and Spanish, English and Italian, German and English, French and English, English and Persian , English and Greek, English and Korean. Students in the field of linguistics can speak English and French, English and German, English and Spanish, English and Italian, German and English, French and English, English and Persian, English and Greek, English and Korean, Italian and English, English and Hindi combine. As a third language for the combination, French, German, Greek, Italian, Korean, Spanish, Hindi, Persian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Georgian, Turkish and Dutch are also taught at the faculty. In the master's program, knowledge in the areas of comparative typology of languages, comparative linguistics, semiotics, multilingual education and educational psychology can be acquired and deepened.
The chair for German
The German language was taught in the first few years after the university was founded. The chair for German was established in 1936 as the first chair for a foreign language. In the past, the chair initially trained teachers in German. Today, in addition to qualifications in the field of education, qualifications in the fields of linguistics, regional studies, political science, literary studies and interpreting can also be acquired. In addition to practical training in German lessons, the professors also hold theoretical courses such as introductions to German philology, style, lexicology, theoretical grammar, translation theory and typology. Numerous textbooks for schools and universities have been created by the staff of the chair. The first head of the Chair for German, G. Andreasyan, is the author of the first German-Armenian dictionary, which is still used in the fields of German studies and interpreting. The Chair of German offers courses for students from all faculties of the university. In addition, lecturers of the chair (also together with the lecturers of the chair for pedagogy and methodology of foreign language teaching) organize qualification courses for German teachers in Armenian schools.
Austria Library
On October 28, 2010, an Austria library was opened at the university. It has a stock of approx. 4,500 books in the areas of German as a Foreign Language (DaF) and lexicons, children's and youth literature, Austrian literature and linguistics, philosophy, psychology, Austrian history and regional studies, art, music and architecture. The Austria Library is a public library where not only university lecturers and students but also guests can get to know Austrian literature and art.

students life
The university's student council has student-organized committees through which seminars, exhibitions, competitions, discussions, tours, concerts and sporting events are organized. For example, the Culture Commission organizes events in the areas of song, dance and theater. The Sports Commission organizes inter-university sports competitions for basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, chess and swimming. In addition, the student council looks after various groups, such as discussion and translation groups.
