Bertram Burkert (* 1994 in Apolda ) is a German jazz musician ( guitar , also trumpet , composition ).

Live and act

Burkert began playing the guitar at the age of seven; In 2010 he graduated from the Apolda Music School Otmar Gerster on the instrument. After high school, he studied classical guitar at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2017; He also studied jazz guitar with Werner Neumann in Leipzig .

The trio Kaktusfeld emerged from the joint work in the regional youth big band Thuringia . In 2014 and 2015 he was the guitarist of the Federal Jazz Orchestra . He is currently part of the Flounder Quartet . He also performed at the opening concert of Jazz Week Burghausen 2016 with the WDR Big Band Cologne , Ron Carter and Richard Galliano . In 2019 he will play with Matthew Halpin , Reza Askari and Max Stadtfeld in the Stax quartet .

The Bertram Burkert Trio with Matze Eichhorn (bass) and Jan Roth (drums) released their debut album Das Auge des Viewer on Egolaut in 2014 . Hayden Chisholm , Robert Landfermann and Fabian Rösch belong to his quartet, with which the album The Search for Your Own World (FLOATmusic) was created . He can also be heard on albums by Uschi Brüning and the quintet by Marc Doffey . Concert tours have taken him to the USA, Russia, Italy, Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

Prizes and awards

Burkert received the special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary compulsory piece at the 10th international "Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists" and the soloist prize of the German Foundation for Music Life at the 49th Federal Youth Music Competition . Furthermore, in 2012 he won the state competition Jugend jazzt both as a soloist and with the trio Kaktusfeld . The Union of German Jazz Musicians awarded him the special prize for the best original composition after the 2013 Jugend jazzt national competition , where he and the Kaktusfeld Trio received the ŠKODA Jazz Prize.
