Marc Doffey

Marc Doffey (born January 1992 in Ahlen ) is a German jazz musician ( saxophone , composition ).

Live and act

Doffey received piano lessons from the age of seven; at the age of ten he switched to the alto saxophone . Soon afterwards he was able to join the big band of the municipal music school in his hometown. In 2009 he won first prize in the soloist competition at the state competition " Jugend jazzt " in NRW and subsequently became a member of the Jugendjazzorchester NRW , to which he belonged until 2013 and with which he won the WDR Jazz Prize 2013 in the category with the CD "Way Up" "NRW Jazz Young" received. From 2009 to 2011 he completed preparatory training at the Glen Buschmann Jazz Academy in Dortmund; as a member of the East West European Jazz Orchestra Twins , he performed with guests such as Jerry Bergonzi and Dave Liebman .

Since October 2012 Doffey has been studying at the Jazz Institute Berlin with Peter Less . In 2013 and 2014 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra ; from 2014 to 2015 he was also a member of the Brandenburg State Youth Jazz Orchestra. Together with singer Sabeth Pérez , guitarist Bertram Burkert , bassist Thomas Kolarczyk and drummer Fabian Rösch , he founded his quintet, which won the Saar Jazz Prize in October 2015 after a first tour; In 2016 it became the first winner of the Young German Jazz Prize and the Young Munich Jazz Prize.
