Gabriel Perez

Gabriel Pérez (* 1964 in Córdoba ) is an Argentinian musician (saxophone, clarinet, flute) of modern jazz and composer. His precise knowledge of Argentine (folk) music often flows into his compositional work.

Live and act

Pérez received a broad musical education in Argentina. He gained his first musical experience in the Cordoba Symphonic Wind Orchestra (1984–1988) and in the Scaramouche saxophone quartet . From 1986 to 1989 he was a lecturer at the College of Córdoba; he also recorded with well-known Argentine musicians. In order to continue his education as a composer, he moved to Germany and studied saxophone with Frank Gratkowski and composition / arrangement with Frank Reinshagen at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . In 2006 he formed the Cuarteto Rosamonte with Martín Bruhn, Leandro Guffanti and Carlos Buschini , which recorded its first album in 2007. In addition to various international commissions, he was commissioned with a composition in 2009 on the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany and is part of the management team of the JugendJazzOrchester Nordrhein-Westfalen . He arranged for the WDR Big Band Cologne , the Parco della Musica Jazz Orchestra Rome , the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , the Zurich Jazz Orchestra and the Sunday Night Orchestra . The singer Sabeth Pérez is his daughter.

Prizes and awards

In 2008, Pérez received the WDR Jazz Prize as a composer .
