Frank Reinshagen
Frank Reinshagen (* 1961 in Saarland ) is a German composer , band leader and baritone saxophonist of modern jazz .
Live and act
Reinshagen, who comes from a musical family and is related to Siegfried Jerusalem , began playing the flute when he was ten . He later switched to the baritone saxophone and discovered his love for jazz. After high school he started studying saxophone at the Cologne University of Music . After an accident with protracted dental problems, he switched to studying jazz composition with Jiggs Whigham , Bob Brookmeyer and Jerry van Rooyen at the age of 27 . Soon he began to write for the WDR Big Band Cologne , the NDR Big Band and the hr Big Band and their guest soloists such as Tom Harrell , Adam Nussbaum or Randy Brecker . He has been teaching jazz composition at the Cologne University of Music since the late 1990s. In 2004 he was awarded the WDR Jazz Prize for his compositions . From 2007 on he was one of the directors of the JugendJazzOrchester NRW alongside Marko Lackner and Dietmar Mensinger .
