Marko Lackner

Marko Lackner (born March 23, 1972 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian composer , arranger and soprano saxophonist in the field of jazz music .

Career

In 1979 Lackner began taking piano and saxophone lessons in Feldkirchen and from 1986 received jazz lessons at the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt. From 1990 he studied jazz saxophone and composition at the Graz University of Music .

Four diplomas with distinction

Lackner obtained four diplomas with distinction during his studies: 1991 in jazz saxophone at the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt, 1995 also in jazz saxophone at the Graz University of Music, in 1999 in the same subject at the Cologne University of Music with Professor Wolfgang Engstfeld and in the same year also in composition arrangement, also at the Cologne University of Music.

Act

As a musician

Lackner played and plays in a variety of orchestras and combos, including such well-known as the Bundesjazzorchester , Bob Brookmeyers New Art Orchestra, Peter Herbolzheimer Rhythm Combination & Brass, Europlane Orchestra Trieste, WDR Big-Band , SWR Big-Band , European Youth Jazz Orchestra , Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and many more. His first CD was released in 2005: Marco Lackner, Awakening.

As a composer

Lackner composed commissioned works for Ansgar Striepens / Ed Partyka , the Bamberg Symphony Big Band, the Jazz Big Band Graz , the Summit Jazz Orchestra, the SWR Big Band , NDR Bigband , hr-Bigband , the StummFilmMusikTage Erlangen or the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra.

As a conductor

Lackner was a guest conductor with the NDR Bigband, the HR Bigband, the RTV-Slovenia Bigband and the Vienna Concert Jazz Orchestra. In the first half of 2007 he was guest conductor and artistic director of the Federal Jazz Orchestra . Since 2006 he has been artistic director of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra NRW (JJONRW).

As an educator

From 1998 to 2002 Lackner was a lecturer at the Brühl City Music School. In 2003 and 2004 he worked as a lecturer in jazz theory at the Maastricht Conservatorium, and in 2003 he was appointed professor for jazz big band, saxophone and composition at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden ; since March 2009 he has been working at the University of Music in Würzburg.

Prizes and awards

In 1996 Lackner took 1st place at the Leibnitzer Jazzpreis, a composition competition for jazz big band, in 1998 a 2nd place followed at the NDR-Musikpreis (competition for jazz big band conducting) and 1st place at the composers' competition of the Hessischer Rundfunk. In 2005 he finally won the WDR Jazz Prize for Composition.
