Matthew Halpin (* 1991 in Dublin ) is an Irish jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , composition).

Live and act

Halpin first studied classical saxophone at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and then, fascinated by jazz, continued his studies from 2009 to 2013 at Berklee College of Music with Joe Lovano and George Garzone (Bacchelor in Dublin). Then he worked for two years under Danilo Pérez on the performance program of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston. Since then he has lived in Cologne, where he follows the Last Chance Dance project with David Helm and Fabian Arends , performs with Riaz Khabirpour and has been part of Hendrika Entzian's quartet since 2016 . In 2015 he released an album with the singer Veronika Morscher ; he can also be heard on the album The Next One by the folk band Kieran Quinn . He also worked with the RTÉ National Concert Orchestra , the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra and the Irish Youth Jazz Ensemble , in 2018 with the Jonathan Hofmeister Quartet and with Veronika Morscher in the Moscher / Halpin Group . In 2019 he plays with Bertram Burkert , Reza Askari and Max Stadtfeld in the Stax quartet .
