Riaz Khabirpour (* 1979 in Heidelberg ) is a Luxembourg jazz musician (guitar, composition).

Live and act

Khabirpour got to know music through his mother, who often sang and accompanied herself on the guitar. At the age of 14 he first learned classical guitar. He later discovered jazz and improvised music. In 1999 he moved to Amsterdam to study jazz guitar with Maarten van der Grinten and Jesse van Ruller at the Conservatory there; During his master's degree (from 2003) he studied for a semester in New York with John Abercrombie . In 2002 and 2003 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under Peter Herbolzheimer .

He has lived in Cologne since 2006, where he founded his own band, with which he released an album in 2009 that received good reviews. In 2015, his sextet included singers Tamara Lukasheva and Filippa Gojo . With the singer Esther Berlansky he maintains the Duo Zweiton . In the Electric Lëtzebuerg Trio he plays with Pol Belardi and Pit Dahm. He was also active in Jens Böckamp's quintet , in the Koi Trio , in the Elftett group , in the New York band Noor Saz and in the groups of Maxime Bender , Raphael Klemm and Eva Buchmann .

He has two children with the children's book illustrator Constanze von Kitzing.
