Esther Berlansky

Esther Berlansky (* 1982 in Neuss ) is a German jazz musician (vocals, composition).

Berlanyky comes from a musical family: she is the granddaughter of the violinist Tibor Berkovits and the concert pianist Hedwig Schneider; her parents are also classical musicians. From 1989 she received piano lessons; soon she sang in the Düsseldorf girls' choir, as a member of which she also appeared at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 1995 . In addition, she developed an interest in jazz music . She studied jazz singing at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam , where she also attended workshops with Bobby McFerrin , John Scofield and Richard Bona ; then she studied jazz composition / arrangement at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen with Peter Herborn .

With her quartet, which has existed since 2004, she released two albums. With this band, as well as in other line-ups, Berlansky performed across Europe. She can also be heard on Gerd Breuer 's albums. She has been a member of the extra choir since 2008.

As a composer, she received several commissions for the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra and the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra (including a ballet premiere in 2008 at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein), and in 2012 she arranged the musical Beats! for the Hagen theater . Berlansky has been working as a lecturer since 2005 and also supervised several productions for the Neuss Musical Weeks as a voice trainer.
