Raphael Klemm

Raphael Klemm (* 1989 in Dresden ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone , sousaphone , bass trombone , arrangement , composition).

Live and act

Klemm studied jazz trombone and classical trombone in Leipzig, Stockholm, Barcelona and Essen, a. a. under Simon Harrer and Ansgar Striepens . Since then he has played a. a. in the Bundesjugendjazzorchester , the East West European Jazz Orchestra , the WDR Big Band Köln , the Bigband Convention Köln , the Grand Central Orchestra , Jazzkombinat Hamburg, Essen Jazz Orchestra, Wil Saldens Glenn Miller Orchestra , Subway Jazz Orchestra , the New German Art Orchestra and in the Thoneline Orchestra . He also worked as a studio musician in productions of Mark Forster and Tape Five . As a musician, he also worked in stage productions a. a. the Dortmund Opera , Bonn Theater , Cologne Opera and Grenzlandtheater Aachen . In addition to numerous television and radio productions, he was also involved in recordings with the Magnetic Ghost Orchestra (album Sand (2016), among others with Moritz Sembritzki and Malte Schiller ) and with Tobias Wember and the Subway Jazz Orchestra ( State of Mind , Unit 2016). He has been a member of the WDR Big Band Cologne since 2019.

Klemm has also been a lecturer at workshops since 2012, including a. at the Summer Jazz Academy in Novi Sad , Serbia , at the Arnsberg Art Summer and at the Trier Jazz Workshop .

Awards

In 2011, Klemm received a grant from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia; In 2016 he and his sextet won a performance grant from Werner Richard-Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation. In 2012 he was a finalist at the Carl Fontana Jazz Trombone Competition in Paris and in 2014 at the JJ Johnson Competition in Rochester, New York.
