Tape Five

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tape Five is a multinational German music project founded in 2003 by songwriter and producer Martin Strathausen.

Tape Five produces music in different styles such as swing , electro swing , nujazz , latin , lounge , dub , trip-hop , chill-out and electro . While the first two albums were influenced by Lounge, Nujazz, Swing and Latin, Tape Five influenced the electro swing movement with the album Tonight Josephine (2010) and Swing Patrol (2012). The seventh album The Roaring 2020s was released on October 25, 2019. on the label SMARTY-MART-RECORDS The Roaring 2020s sees itself as musical screenshots of the retro-modern: Dixie clarinets, sometimes uptempo R&B covers, sometimes swing ballads, one Homage to the Brooklyn of the good old days. Tape Five cooperated with various record companies: ChinChin Records (Germany), Rambling Records (Japan) and DigDis (Germany).

style

The music of Tape Five is shaped by the style of the major jazz and light music composers of the mid-20th century. The early bossa nova phase of the first two albums can be compared with the music of Les Baxter , the inventor of the Exotica . The second album Bossa for a Coup has echoes of the Quincy Jones sound of the 60s. The title Slow Serenade of the fourth album Swing Patrol can be understood as an homage to old Glenn Miller recordings from the 1930s. The composition is based on the Schillinger system , which was already used by The Andrews Sisters and Benny Goodman .

Martin Strathausen is a multi-instrumentalist and realizes his recordings both in cooperation with international musicians and singers (Germany, England, Italy, France, Romania, USA, Russia, Ukraine, Cameroon etc.) as well as with local artists of the Essen " Folkwang University of the Arts " .
