David Helm (* 1990 in Weilburg ) is a German jazz musician ( double bass , also bass guitar, synthesizer, composition).

Live and act

At the age of nine, Helm became a long-term member of the Limburg Cathedral Boys' Choir . After graduating from high school, he studied classical piano at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts from 2009 to 2011 . In 2011 he moved to Cologne to study double bass at the Musikhochschule with Dieter Manderscheid until 2015 . In 2012/13 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra . He is a founding member of the band Pollon. He also plays with MAKKRO, Klonk and the Zoom Trio , with whom he also released albums. Furthermore he belongs to the bands of Jürgen Friedrich and Shannon Barnett as well as toSubway Jazz Orchestra . Together with Fabian Arends he curated the First Meetings series in the Cologne Loft , where he performed with Jacob Anderskov , John Ruocco , Nicolas Masson and Sven Kerschek ; with Arends and Matthew Halpin he formed the Last Chance Dance project . He also worked with Philip Zoubek , Kurt Elling , Niels Klein , Florian Ross , Jonas Burgwinkel , Pablo Held , Matthias Nadolny , Sebastian Sternal and the bass crowd around Sebastian Gramss .

Prizes and awards

In 2019 David Helm received the Horst und Gretl-Will grant from the city of Cologne.
