Theresia Philipp (* 1991 in Großröhrsdorf , Saxony ) is a German jazz musician ( alto , soprano and baritone saxophone , as well as clarinet and flute , composition).

Live and act

Philipp grew up in Upper Lusatia ; She started playing the saxophone in the marching band when she was eleven and attended the Saxon State High School for Music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden from 2004 to 2010 . After graduating from high school, she studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Claudius Valk , Roger Hanschel , Henning Berg and Joachim Ullrich until 2015 . Between 2007 and 2011 she was a member of the LandesJugendJazzOrchester Sachsen, directed by Marko Lackner ; From 2012 to 2013 she was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Jiggs Whigham and Niels Klein .

Philipp works as a freelance musician in the Cologne jazz scene. Since 2011 she has been part of the international Backyard Jazz Orchestra , which is directed by Peter Ehwald and Stefan Schultze . With David Helm and Thomas Sauerborn , she has formed the Trio Pollon since 2013 , which released its debut album in 2016. She also belongs to the Large Ensemble of January carpenter and Urban Cycles to Joscha Oetz . She continued to perform with musicians such as John Taylor , John Ruocco , Will Vinson , Kurt Elling , Pablo Held , Heiner Wiberny , Frank Wunsch , Loren Stillman and Michael Heupel and could also be heard with the WDR Big Band Cologne . Concert tours have taken her through Europe and India; she performed at the Jazzfest Bonn , Beograde Jazz Festival , Venice Jazz Festival , the Skopje Jazz Festival , Winterjazz Cologne and the Jazz Is Back festival .

Prizes and awards

After several first prizes at Jugend jazzt , Philipp received the Lions Club Cologne scholarship in 2013.
