Werner Koch (writer)

Werner Koch (born August 4, 1926 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; died March 30, 1992 in Cologne ) was a German writer .

Life

Werner Koch came from a pastor family. He studied history , German and philosophy . From 1948 to 1954 he was editor for the features section of the Rheinische Zeitung , from 1954 to 1961 dramaturge and director at the municipal theaters in Cologne. From 1961 to 1965 he headed the television magazine “Spektrum” and from 1965 the program group culture at Westdeutscher Rundfunk , where he also produced his own television programs, including many on topics from the Arab cultural area.

Koch had been a member of the PEN Center of the Federal Republic of Germany since 1962 and of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz since 1977 . He received u. a. 1960 the storyteller prize of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk, 1964 the prize of the Académie Française for the best foreign novel and 1972 the Bodensee literary prize .

Werner Koch's narrative prose deals primarily with biblical, religious and philosophical topics. In addition, the author has also emerged as an essayist .
