Claude Aveline , actually Eugen Avtsine , (born July 19, 1901 in Paris , † November 4, 1992 ibid) was a French writer.

Life

Aveline's parents fled the Russian Empire in 1891 to escape the pogroms . There they settled in Paris and received by President Emile Loubet , the French citizenship .

Aveline completed his school days at the Lycée Henri IV (Paris) and the Lycée Hoche ( Versailles ). Aveline experienced the First World War in 1915 as a nurse. After the war ended, Aveline attended the Lycée Janson de Sailly in his hometown , which he soon had to leave due to illness. In 1918/19 he cured himself in Cannes ( Département Alpes-Maritimes ), and it was during this time that he began his first literary attempts. He also changed his name to "Claude Aveline".

Anatole France , who had become aware of Aveline through a few poems in 1919, sponsored him and over time also became one of his closest friends. In 1920 Aveline returned to Paris and got a job as editor of an art magazine. At the age of 21, Aveline founded the publishing house "chez Claude Aveline éditeur" in 1922 and from then on proudly described himself as "France's youngest publisher".

In 1923 Aveline fell ill again and had to spend almost four years in the sanatorium of Fonte-Romeu ( Département Pyrénées-Orientales ). There he made the acquaintance of the future director Jean Vigo , with whom he remained friends throughout his life. He created the Prix ​​Jean Vigo in his honor and was an important member of the jury for 25 years.

During the Second World War , Aveline joined the Resistance and also worked on an underground newspaper.

In 1967 the sculptor Ossip Zadkine created a bust of Aveline. Since Zadkine died that same year, Aveline dubbed herself “le dernier Zadkine”.

As the editor of an art magazine, Aveline soon came into contact with Asian art. This and his interest in Asian philosophy and religion meant that he was able to successfully debut Gautama Bouddha with his work La merveilleuse légende de Siddharta in 1922 .

In 1950 Aveline published his poem Portrait de l'oiseau qui n'existe pas (Portrait of a non-existent bird) and in 1955 asked all of his friends to illustrate it with a portrait of this bird. The resulting publication contained works by Henri-Georges Adam , Jean-Michel Atlan , Jean Bertholle , Roger Bissière , Zoran Mušič , Mario Prassinos , Gustave Singer , Maria Helena Vieira da Silva , Jacques Villon and others. a. When this work was exhibited in the Musée National d'Art Moderne (Paris) in 1963 , Aveline donated it to this museum.
