Jean Vigo Prize
The Jean-Vigo Prize ( Prix Jean-Vigo ) has been awarded since 1951 in homage to the film director Jean Vigo .
It is awarded to "a French director who has distinguished himself by the independence of his mind and the originality of his style". In practice it is not just the formal qualities that are decisive; rather, the human and social significance of the film is crucial. Mostly young directors are awarded. In addition to the award for feature films, a short film award is also awarded.
Members of the first jury in 1951 included a. Jacques Becker , Jean Cocteau , Paul Gilson , Georges Sadoul and Luce Vigo, the daughter of Jean Vigo.
