Albert Lamorisse (born January 13, 1922 in Paris , France , † June 2, 1970 in Karaj , Iran ) was a French director . He made important short films and children's films .

Life

Originally a photographer , Lamorisse began producing short, artistic-poetic children's films in the 1940s, which today could be described as fantasy . The red balloon , in which a French boy (played by his son) makes friends with a red balloon, became world famous . For this film he received the Oscar in the category Best Original Screenplay and thus prevailed against Federico Fellini ( La Strada - Das Lied der Straße ), among others . Most of Lamorisse's films were based on his own script and produced by himself. Some of them later became children's books, partly with his participation.

He later made longer films, but with less success. In the film Fifi, the pen , the technical effects were praised. In later years he devoted himself to documentary film . Lamorisse died in a helicopter crash during aerial photography of Bode Saba ( Persian باد صبا Bāde Sabā ) - Wind of the Desert , a documentary film about Iran and its landscape. The work was completed on the basis of the filmmaker's notes and published in 1978. A year later, Lamorisse was posthumously nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Documentary .

In the 1950s, Lamorisse invented the strategic board game La Conquête du Monde (German: Die Eroberung der Welt ), which was later produced by Parker Brothers under the name Risk and which received the game award Der Goldene Pöppel in 1980 .
